What Reading Counts Medal Has Your Child Earned?

We have set Reading Counts goals for our 2-6 grade students to earn recognition for their independent reading. Ask your child if they have earned Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Diamond.  In the classroom, we focus on reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, blending, comprehension, and fluency. Please help our student solidify these skills and earn their next Reading Counts medal by encouraging him/her to read their Reading Counts book at least four times a week 20-30 minutes nightlyIt’s a fact…the only way to improve reading and all academic areas, is to read, read, and read some more!

Our Borchardt Neon Jog-A-Thon was a success!

Thank you to all our families who participated and helped to make this a fun filled event for our students.

Jog-A-Thon pledges are due Friday, March 10th

School Vaccination Mandate for 7th Grade

All 6th grade students will need to have proof of the Tdap (Whooping Cough) Booster Shot before entering 7th grade.

In September 2010, a new law was passed (AB 354) that changed CA immunization requirements for students entering 7th grade.  ALL students prior to entering 7th grade in the upcoming 2017-2018 school year must have proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (Tdap).

Spring Break is a great time to contact your primary care physician for the Tdap vaccine. Once your child has the Tdap vaccine, bring proof of your child’s Tdap immunization to the Borchardt Office.  We will record it into the system, you will not have to do anything more.  Students who do not show proof of receiving a Tdap booster shot, prior to the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, will not be able to attend 7th grade starting July 31, 2018.

Have a Wonderful Spring Break!

New This Week! Parent Resources for Understanding the Student Score Report

The video “Understanding the CAASPP Student Score Report,” which explains how to interpret student results and highlights the new features found in the report, is now available in English. It is located on the California Department of Education (CDE) CAASPP Student Score Report Information Web page.

New Parent Communication Resources

Three new resources designed to help schools and districts better communicate with parents about the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments are now available on the CDE CAASPP Communications Toolkit Web page. These resources—a template letter to parents, a parent checklist, and guidance on shifting and refining the assessment-related messages delivered to parents—can be customized to suit the needs of the local educational agency (LEA) or individual school.

For the Safety of Our Borchardt Bears

All adults must be prepared to show a photo ID when checking students out of class.  As we become acquainted with parents and begin to know which students belong to which adults, we can relax on this requirement.  But, until we know who is who the photo ID is necessary.

It's the Standard!

Does your Borchardt Bear have their Multiplication Facts memorized?

Here is a great website to practice the facts.  This site allows the students to take a multiplication quiz on the computer.  When they press finished, the computer will correct it for them!  They are also given the choice to print out the test too!
